Cubi, Bag-in-Box (BiB), wine fountain... what are we talking about?

Even if the "cubi" strictly speaking used to be a rigid plastic container, today all these terms commonly refer to the same thing: a flexible plastic bag containing wine and housed in a cardboard box, with a capacity of 3, 5 or 10 liters (no 3 liters at Le Pech d'André).

Wine packaging in BiBs

At Le Pech d'André, Bag-in-Boxes are filled in our cellar with a specialized machine thanks to an "air vacuum" system, in a fresh atmosphere and with all the necessary sanitary precautions.

Packaging is made throughout the year as deliveries are made. The date on the top near the handle is the packaging date.

Preservation of a BiB of wine before opening

Store BiBs upright, handle up, away from light and in a cool place. You can keep our organic wines in BiBs unopened for 4 to 6 months for reds, 2 to 3 months for whites and rosés. Whenever possible it is best to store white and rosé BiBs in the refrigerator.

Opening a wine BiB

As indicated on the BiB, the tap must be taken out through the pre-drilled hole in the box. Then, we advise you to leave the BiB lying down and to lift and move it as little as possible.

Storage of a wine BiB after opening

Once the BiB has been opened, it is usually advisable to drink the wine within 3 weeks after opening. For our organic wines in BiBs, we advise you to drink them up to 2 weeks after opening because we have chosen, on all our wines, to put reduced doses of sulphites (which help to preserve the wine).

Beyond this time the risk of alteration of the wine increases (but everything can still go well if the conditions of conservation are good!).

A trick to make your wine BiB last longer

If this is too fast for you, we advise you to take a few glass bottles that have been emptied and washed with water. Then, you can:

  1. Open the BiB.
  2. Fill several bottles to the maximum and seal them tightly with as little air as possible.
  3. Consume the rest of the BiB first (where you will have left the amount you can consume in two weeks).
  4. Then gradually consume the bottles.

Do not hesitate to ask us for advice if you have any further questions. We remain at your disposal. Don't forget that alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health. Drink with moderation. May our wine offer you pleasant shared moments!
